BARBARA CARTIER
visual artist

bio

Barbara Cartier

(b.1981) Buenos Aires, Argentina. Based in Panama.

Barbara Cartier's artistic practice intertwines with significant personal experiences, such as exploring materials in a new environment, and more recently, motherhood and the ongoing (re)construction of the feminine identity. Cartier employs diverse media and materials in her work to delve into the boundaries between care and self-care, as well as the emotional and physical borders of the body. The circularity of the lines in her work also ground us to a cyclic rhythm that is implied in change, transformation, and life after all.

Barbara Cartier graduated in Visual Arts at the National University of Arts in Buenos Aires, and has established her artistic presence through various projects including art residencies like LIA in Leipzig and Chagres in one of the Emberá communities in Panama. Her solo exhibitions in Panama City, Buenos Aires, and Dallas, as well as her participation in group shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama, the Museum of Human Achievement in Austin, and Art Foundation in Athens, highlight her commitment to artistic exploration.
